Inside: Artists and Writers in Reading Prison. Photos. Roni Horn.

A series of photographs of water by Roni Horn.
I saw these, and i immediately wanted to look closer and examine the photo.
The waves and the amorphous structure of water seemed attractive to me.
The gloss on top of the water stood out in the small prison cells.
As mentioned before, water seemed to be one of the subjects of the exhibition. Why?
Is it because in these dirty, small prison cells water would be the purest thing to receive?
Or is it because the people in prison are impure for their deeds and in cravings for pure things water becomes the main object of desire?
Or is it because prisoners usually shower on a daily ? And water get’s sexualized.
Or is it because a lot of water can be seen outside – rivers?
Water being the essence of life?

I think it is interesting how water is being sexualized here.
The photographs were all different, it demonstrated well what water can be like.
Is that like saying that life can be different, as the surface of water, it constantly changes, it may look similar but it will never be identical?

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
